Summary
Donald Lipski is an American artist and sculptor with his work in dozens of prestigious museums and installed outdoors. He was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1947 and was raised in the northern suburb of Highland Park. The family business of his parents and grandparents was dealing bicycles. Donald’s first welded sculptures as a teenager won him The Scholastic Art Award in high school, and he was a history major and anti-war activist at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, earning a B.A. in American History in 1970. In college, Donald discovered a love for ceramics while working with well-known ceramics artist Don Reitz. He then pursued a masters in fine art in ceramics from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1973, where he studied with Richard DeVore and Michael Hall. Donald taught at the University of Oklahoma from 1973 to 1977, and then he moved to New York.
